Lesson 6 - Power Rangers
Animal Relay
You will need: cones
- Divide the class into equal teams and ask them to line up one behind another.
- Give each team member in the line a different animal to move e.g. first student in each line - bear crawling, second - snake slithering, third - horse galloping etc.
- Teams run, hop, or crawl from one cone to another and back, tag the next teammate until all members have raced.
- Rotate animal movements between rounds and repeat.
- Suggested animals: Kangaroos, Bunnies, Turtles, Horses, Penguins, Frogs, Eagle
Power Rangers
You will need: parachute, beanbags
- Place the parachute in the centre of the room and scatter beanbags' around the playing area - the beanbags are aliens and the parachute is a spaceship.
- Partner students up as power rangers. Each power ranger team must always have 1 hand joined with their partners.
- On the whistle power rangers partners walk hand in hand until they both have collected 1 beanbag each of the same colour.
- Power rangers return the aliens to the parachute and find a position at the parachute.
- When everyone has returned the aliens to the parachute the class work as a team that send the aliens into space using the parachute & the teachers call - 3,2,1 lift off!
Musical Hoops
You will need: speaker, music, hoops
- Arrange hoops on the floor, ensuring there's one (or almost one) hoop for each student.
- When the music begins students move around the area, making sure to avoid the hoops.
- When the music stops students quickly race to the nearest hoop and stand inside, balancing (e.g., on one foot) until the music restarts.
- Each time the music restarts the teacher can ask students to move in different ways (e.g., skipping, hopping, galloping) to practice different fundamental movement skills.
- As students move around, the teacher may remove some hoops so when the music stops students find and share a hoop with others, balancing or stretching together inside the hoop.
