Lesson 2 - Bouncing Along

What Can you do?

You will need: balls of all sizes & shapes, beanbags, quoits

  • Take balls, beanbag, hula hoop and quoits out of your equipment room. and have a play with it, safely.
  • Ask students to imagine they have found Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cabin full of their rolling, throwing and catching equipment.
  • Students choose a ball, beanbag, hula hoop or quoit and explore and play with it, safely.
  • Challenge students to remember any tips for good throwing and catching.

For this part of the lesson, spend 5 minutes teaching and practicing the 'Star Movement of the Day'. Use the poster below or printable attached to directly teach your students the correct technique. Provide students time to practice the correct technique using the activity provided on the poster.




Bouncing a Ball - Challenges

You will need: a variety of balls of different sizes

  • Place a number of different types of balls out from the PE equipment room.
  • Ask students to choose a ball having a go at bouncing it on the floor and catching it.
  • Remind the students how to bounce a ball correctly and challenge the class using the bouncing a ball challenge card (printable).

Remember, to bounce a ball you must:

  1. Look at the Ball
  2. Bend your knees
  3. Bounce it up to your belly button
  4. Keep your hands together with your fingers spread

Challenges:

Can you bounce it back down with your hands instead of catching it?

Can you bounce with 2 hands and catch the ball?

Can you bounce with one hand and catch the ball?

Can you bounce it back down with one hand instead of catching it?

Can you control your ball when walking and bouncing?

Let's Draw

You will need: self-assessment sheets, pencils

Hand a sheet and a pencil to each child to draw a picture of themselves doing their best kicking. Remind students of all the important kicking tips they have learnt from the kicking master!
