Jumping for Height

Traffic Lights

You will need: 3 cones - red, yellow, green

  • Ask students to imagine they are driving the vet ambulance to an injured animal.
  • The teacher pretends to direct traffic and calls out different speeds for the ambulance to travel at using red, yellow and green cones.
  • If "red" is called then everyone must stand very still and silent. If "yellow" is called then everyone moves around in slow motion. If "green" is called then everyone moves around quite fast.

For this part of the lesson, spend 5 minutes teaching and practicing the 'Star Movement of the Day'. Use the poster below or printable attached to directly teach your students the correct technique. Provide students time to practice the correct technique using the activity provided on the poster.

Jack in the Box

You will need: no equipment

  • Ask students to find their own space in the playing area. Teach them the jack in the box rhyme following the actions.
  • Repeat the rhyme a number of times getting slower and slower each time allowing students bodies to cooldown.

Can we say aloud together a rhyme I know and complete actions with it:

“Jack in the box jumps up

Jack in the box squats down

Jack in the box goes stamp, stamp, stamp

As he turns around”.
