Assessment 1b - Let's Record & Assess
Musical Spots
You will need: cones or spot markers, speaker & music
- Create a circle of spaced out cones, - one less then the number of students in your class e.g. 30 students = 29 cones.
- Ask Students to stand behind the cone with 2 students sharing a cone to begin.
- When the music begins students travel around the outside of the cones, in the same direction, using a movement of the teachers choice e.g. hopping, skipping etc.
- When the music stops students move to the nearest cone as quickly as possible - students that reach a cone at the same time play rock, paper ,scissors to see who gets the cone.
- The student that does not have a cone must perform an exercise of the teachers choosing before returning to the circle. Repeat until all students are warm.
Let's Record & Assess
You will need: self-assessment sheets, pencils and/or iPads/tablets
Assessment Using Tablets/iPads:
- In pairs, or groups, students record two videos of them skipping - One side view video and one front view.
- After recording, groups sit down, re-watch their video, and score their skipping skill using the assessment sheet e.g. head position, shoulder position etc.
- If students think they have mastered that skill point correctly, they give themselves 1 point. Repeat the process with each skill point.
- Finally, students tally up their score to find out if they are a beginner, developer or master skipper.
Alternatively
Assessment Using Self-Assessment Sheet:
- In pairs, students assess their skipping
- The assessor begins by standing to the side with the assessment sheet and pencil. After watching their partner skip along a straight line twice moves to the top and the student repeats the skipping action.
- If the assessor believes their partner has mastered a skill point they give them a tick. Repeat the process with each skill point.
- Finally, students tally up their score to find out if they are a beginner, developer or skipper.
