Lesson 3 - Tuck Rock
Marching Astronauts
You will need: no equipment
- Ask students to find their own space in the PE area.
- Perform the 'Marching Astronaut' with the class: March in place for 30 seconds, pumping knees high and arms from side to side.
- Rest and then repeat until warm.
Tuck Rock
You will need: basic gymnastic positions flashcards (printable), gymnastic mats (optional)
- Recap the gymnastic positions from last lesson using the flash cards.
- Focus on revising the Tuck Sit.
- 1. Tuck Rock: When comfortable, practice rocking in a tuck shape - Begin by starting in the tuck sit position and then rocking backwards onto their back. Students must hold their tuck shape whilst on their back (knees and feet together, one hand on each shin).
- Challenge students to rock on their back for 5 seconds holding their tuck shape.
- 2. Tuck Rock & Sit: If students are competent add an extra challenge - returning to the tuck sit. Begin in the tuck sit, rocking backwards holding the tuck shape, then rock forward back to their starting position on their bottom in the tuck sit position..
Space Walk
You will need: no equipment
- Ask students to find their own space in the PE area.
- Students pretend to be in space, walking through deep moon deserts, jumping over asteroids, and shaking off moon dust before returning to the shuttle, removing their suit and going to bed.
- Continue until cool
