Assessment Using Tablets/iPads:

  • In threes, set out two cones, one for the thrower and one for the catcher.
  • The third student, the assessor, records two videos of the catcher - One side view video and one front view.
  • After recording, groups sit down, re-watch their video, and score the catching skill using the assessment sheet e.g. head position, shoulder position etc.
  • If students think they have mastered that skill point correctly, they give themselves 1 point. Repeat the process with each skill point.
  • Finally, students tally up their score to find out if they are a beginner, developer or master catcher.

Alternatively

Assessment Using Self-Assessment Sheet:

  • In threes, set out two cones, one for the thrower and one for the catcher.
  • The third student, the assessor, begins by standing to the side with the assessment sheet and pencil. After watching the catcher catch the assessor moves to the top and the student repeats the catching action.
  • If the assessor believes their partner has mastered a skill point they give them a tick. Repeat the process with each skill point.
  • Finally, students tally up their score to find out if they are a beginner, developer or master catcher.
