Lesson 5 - Cowboy Shootout
Animal Actions
You will need: animal actions song (attached), speaker
- Ask students to find their own space in the playing area
- Students imagine they are on a farm.
- Play the 'Animal Action' song. Students move their body to the actions of the animals they hear.
Cowboy Shootout
You will need: benches, Landing skill card (printable)
- Imagine you are a cowboy/cowgirl.
- Place two benches facing each other. Sit 5-7 students on each bench.
- Ask students to stand up on their bench and face another 'cowboy family enemy'.
- Each family are going to have a Texas Shootout with their enemy.
- To do so they must jump and land safely on the ground using 3 simple steps.
- Use the landing skill card attached to teach the skill and play the game.
1) Begin arms straight behind you, pistol in your hands, knees bent, eyes looking forward.
2) On the whistle jump forward off the bench, swinging your arms and pistols forward and shout BANG, BANG, BANG!
3) Make sure to land safely on 2 feet, looking at your enemy with no hands touching the ground.
4) Repeat
To the Ground
You will need: no equipment
- Ask students to find their own space in the playing area.
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
- Touch the ground for 20 seconds. Touch the right foot for 20 seconds. Touch the left foot for 20 seconds.
- Repeat until cool.
